From landscaping services to labor for the Orange County Convention Center, Orange County government has a number of contracts up for renewal or bid this year.

As of April 1, the county has more than 634 contracts that will end during 2021. The contracts include everything from recurring services and maintenance to consulting and other needs.

The Orlando Business Journal compiled a list of the contracts set to expire this year so companies can see what may become available for bid. The list is part of an ongoing look at contracts with public entities that are set to become available.

The Orange County procurement division said the following on its bid process in an email to Orlando Business Journal:

Our process is to engage with the user department at a specified time in advance to determine if they are interested in resoliciting for the good/services, or if there is no longer a need for a contract. The timeframe to initiate outreach depends on the dollar value of the contract, which aligns with our thresholds for an informal or formal competitive process. There are instances where another agency has already executed a competitively awarded contract, and in some instances, after a full vetting, we may opt to piggyback that contract, rather than engaging in our own competitive process.

The county lists expiring contracts when they are close to their expiration here, as well as the county’s registration system for vendors.

Contracts with public entities such as the county can offer business opportunities for local companies. Contracts also can span several departments, including the county’s police and fire departments, with a diverse set of needs.

There are a number of potential benefits for businesses that pursue local government contracts, Angel de la Portilla, president of government consulting firm Central Florida Strategies Inc., previously told OBJ. “Companies and providers usually monitor these contracts as they can result in a significant amount of revenue for their business.”

Companies should be proactive about looking at when and where contracts are expiring to see where opportunities may lie, de la Portilla added.
