An Orlando manufacturer plans to double the size of its facilities in Central Florida and create new jobs.
Ballistic Advantage LLC — which builds high-end rifle barrels and other firearm components — signed a 50,000-square-foot lease to operate its new facilities near Maguire Road and Ocoee Business Parkway in Ocoee. The company will move later this year from its current 27,500-square-foot facility in northwest Orlando.
Bo Bradford, co-president of Lee & Associates Central Florida, represented the industrial space developer West Palm Beach-based McCraney Property Co.; Chuck McNulty of Orlando-based McNulty Group Inc. represented Ballistic Advantage. The lease deal was inked Oct. 15.
Ballistic Advantage employs about 85 people and generates “seven-figure” monthly revenue, said operating owner Adam Wainio. “It has been fantastic to have such a strong demand from the industry.”
Ballistic Advantage was founded in 2008 in Wainio’s garage in Altamonte Springs. In 2014, Tacoma, Washington-based firearm manufacturer Aero Precision LLC bought a majority stake in Ballistic Advantage.
The company operates 24 hours a day almost every day in the year, Wainio said. Ballistic Advantage has roughly 15 open positions from entry-level machine apprentice to supply chain management jobs. Open positions pay up to $85,000 a year.
Ballistic Advantage and the city of Ocoee are working together on a potential economic incentive package to spur more growth. No final decisions have been made, and Ballistic Advantage signed a lease before incentives were offered, said Angel de la Portilla, economic development consultant with the city of Ocoee. “The city’s very excited to attract a company like Ballistic Advantage that’s bringing high-paying jobs,” he said.
The west Orange/Winter Garden industrial submarket, which includes Ocoee, has a 13.3% vacancy rate, which is higher than the Orlando-area average of 7.1%, Cushman & Wakefield plc (NYSE: CWK) reported. In addition, the submarket’s warehouse/distribution average leasing rate is $6.73 per square foot, higher than the Orlando-area average of $5.97 per square foot.
